Bit by Bit | Chapter 3 Working with Queries, Forms and Reports | Class 8 CBSE | Computer Application

Working with Queries, Forms and Reports Exercise Solution A. Tick the correct option – 1. (d) Datasheet View 2. (c) Three 3. (c) Four 4. (b) Datasheet View 5. (d) Filter 6. (b) Create B. Fill in the blanks – 1. Query 2. Form 3. Objects 4. Design 5. Report 6. Result C. State True or False – 1. T 2. F 3. T 4. T 5. F 6. T D. Answer the following questions – 1. What is Query? A query is a method of getting answers to questions on data. It is used to retrieve selective data satisfying specific criteria. 2. Differentiate between Form and Report. Forms allow you to add and update data in a table, one record at a time, while reports are an effective way to present data in printed format. You can customize the appearance of tabular data on a report. 3. How can you specify multiple conditions while designing a query? Specifying the condition in the Criteria row for more than one field will result in a query that will select only those records...

Bit by Bit | Chapter 4 - Log on to MS Access 2010 | Class 7 CBSE | Computer Application

D. Answer the following questions 1. What is database? A database is an organised way of storing information. It helps us to manage and access large amount of information quickly and efficiently. 2. What do you understand by term RDBMS? A DBMS that stores data in the form of tables and enables you to join the tables by creating a link between them is called Relational Database Management System (RDBMS). 3. Explain any two advantages of database. The advantages of database are given below: (i) Facilitates sharing of data – Different users can use the same database to extract data based on their individual needs. (ii) Ensures data security – In a DBMS the database administrator has complete control over the database and ensures that the data is accessible only to authorized people. 4. Define the term ‘tables’. Tables are the building blocks of a database. They store the complete data in a structured manner in the forms of rows and columns. 5. What do you mean by the t...

CBSE Class 8 Chapter 2 MS Access

Exercise A. Tick the correct option -  1. (c) AutoNumber 2. (a) Date/Time 3. (b) Primary Key 4. (d) Primary Key 5. (c) Validation Rule 6. (d) Record B. Fill in the blanks -  1. Datasheet 2. Design 3. Rows, Columns 4. Memo 5. Text 6. Required C. True or False 1. False 2. True 3. True 4. True 5. False 6. True D. Differentiate between – 1. Record and Field The rows in a table are known as records. A record stores complete information about an object or an item. The columns in a table are known as fields or attributes. The fields contain only single type of data. Every field has a data type that determines the type of values that can be stored under it. 2. Number and Auto Number data type The number data type accepts number type data whether it can be an integer or a decimal number. The users have to manually input the data in the fields. While Auto number data types are need not to be entered manually, it automatically increment it value when the records are entered. ...

Working with tables in MS Access

Working with tables in MS Access Views of a table The tables in MS Access have only two views – Design and Datasheet View. Design View In design view of the table, you can enter the field names, their data types and description. The design view window is divided into two parts – Field grid panes and Field property pane. Field grid pane – It is used for entering field names and their data types. You can also give a description to the fields in this pane. This description column is optional. Filed property pane – This section is used to set properties of the fields in the table. Datasheet View Datasheet view is used to enter data in a table. When you double click the table name in the left hand side pane window, it opens the datasheet view of the table. Switching between views Microsoft Access allows you to switch from one view to another by following options: Option 1 – Click on the View Option in the View Group on the Home Tab to change from one view to ...

Table Datatypes in MS Access

Field Data Types The various data types in Microsoft Access are described below in the table: Data Types Description AutoNumber It stores an integer that increments automatically as you add records. Text It is used to store combination of text and numbers that does not require calculations, such as address, mobile number, name, etc. The field of this data can hace a maximum of 255 character. Memo When you have more than 255 characters to enter, then you should use this data types for entering large text. Like detailed description of a student or items or products, etc. Number This data type is used to enter number in the column or fields. Date/Time It stores date and time values. You can display the dates and times in various format. You can change the format from field property menu. Currency This data type stores the currency value. It shows the value in decimal format with $ sign. Yes/No This data type accept only one value Yes/No or Trye/False. ...

Database Management System (DBMS)

Record sets are the basic foundation of database programming. Normally all business application need to store large volume of data, organised in a format that simplify retrieval of data, this is accomplished with a Database Management System (DBMS). It is a mechanism for manipulating tabular database with high level commands. The database management system hides low level details such as how data are stored in a database and free's the programmer to concentrate on managing information, rather than on the specific of manipulating files or maintaining link among them.

Types of DBMS

Types of DBMS According to the structure the DBMS is divided into four categories: 1. Hierarchical Database 2. Network Database 3. Relational Database 4. Object-oriented Database 1. Hierarchical Database – In hierarchical database, records contain information about their groups of parent or child relationship just like as a tree. The structure implies that a record can have repeating information. 2. Network Database – A network databases are mainly used on large digital computers. A network database model is a database model that allows multiple records to be linked to the same owner file. The network database follows many to many relationship model, and because of many to many relationship model network database model can easily access any table record in the database. It is easier to navigate and search for information because of flexibility. It is suitable in complex data because of the multiple relationship founded among its data. 3. Relational Databas...

Database Management System (DBMS)

DBMS A DBMS (Database Management System) is a collection of programs that enables you to store, modify and extract information from a database. In simple words we can say that the DBMS is a type of system which manages the data in database like to add new data, modify the data and delete the existing data. DBMS can be used in many places like Banking to manage the records of the account and transaction, Schools to manage the record of the student and their fees, Payroll Management System to manage the details related to the employees like, attendance, salary, etc, and there are many more field we can use the facility DBMS.  Advantages of DBMS 1. Stop data redundancy and inconsistency – Data redundancy is a situation created within a database in which the same piece of data is present at two separate places. Here are two tables in a database in which a common field is present in the table i.e. “ Student_Name ”, so if you use this type of database structure then t...

Database

What is Data? Data is a collection of facts or information which we input into the computer. Like name, age, gender, images, videos, etc. All these data's are stored in unorganized way in computer, but in database we can store all these data in an organised manner. What is Database? Database is a collection of information that is organised so that it can be easily accessed, managed and updated. Formally the database refers to the set of related data organized in a manner. Access to these data is usually provided by a system called Database Management System(DBMS).
